Welcome to the first edition of The Crossing Times – which will be released regularly to provide updates on construction, expansion, and initiatives.

Over the past few years, The Crossing has experienced significant demand and growth. We have continued to safely grow and expand in 2020. We now have 432 residents and in response to demand have introduced new streets and housing options.

Here are the highlights, as of August 2020.

Manufactured Homes

For the past 11 years, people have had the ability to purchase manufactured homes from Prestige Homes to be placed in the land lease section of The Crossing (Irven Drive, Merriweather Crescent, Annie May Court, and Goosie Loop on the map below). Out of the original 192 sites in the land lease section of our community, only 2 sites remain available for purchased manufactured homes and 12 sites remain for rental of manufactured homes. We expect these sites to be fully booked by the end of this year (2020). Once this happens, manufactured homes will no longer be available for purchase at The Crossing, aside from acquisition through private sale.

Custom Built Semi-Detached Homes

Custom built semi-detached homes on Edward Drive (where residents who purchase own both their home and land) are being constructed as quickly as possible to keep up with demand. Out of the 35 semi-detached lots (70 units) originally available, only 6 lots (12 units) are still available. Five new homes (10 units) are currently under construction and are sold or leased.

New Streets – Elizabeth Avenue & Community Lane

Custom built detached one-level homes from the Valley Garden Home Collection and semi-detached homes are now available on Elizabeth Avenue and Community Lane, our newest streets. Those who move to Elizabeth Avenue will enjoy stunning views of our apple orchard, blueberry bushes, and duck pond. There are 27 lots available for Garden Homes and 8 lots (16 units) available for semi-detached homes. Activity is already well underway, as four Garden Homes are presently under construction (2 pre-sold homes and 2 spec homes).

The Valley Garden Home Collection

The Valley Garden Home Collection caters to empty nesters and retirees, and presently features 8 one-level home designs that are available in several communities throughout the Annapolis Valley – including The Crossing. You can learn more about the Valley Garden Home Collection and view renderings/floorplans here: www.valleygardenhomes.ca.

Ongoing Construction

Development has started on the newest section of The Crossing, on lands that extend beyond the existing community, creating new streets that will connect with Payzant Drive in the former town of Windsor. These streets, when completed, will provide an additional 79 lots for detached homes in our community.

Community Social Club

The Crossing has arranged to purchase a home and surrounding acreage located on Payzant Drive (Windsor, NS) and will proceed to design and build a community centre complex on this site. Further announcements concerning design, features, membership structure, and timing will follow in coming months.

Apartment Buildings

Provisions are currently being made for four 48-unit apartment buildings, which will be located at the top of the hill beyond Elizabeth Avenue and Community Lane. Details on apartment sizes, features, pricing and timing will follow by the end of this year (2020).

As we continue to grow, we would like to acknowledge the hard work and support of all staff, tradespeople, and the critical role of New Valley Homes Inc. We would also like to thank our existing residents – as their continued support and positive endorsements make this all possible!

These are exciting and busy times at The Crossing, and we look forward to continuing on this journey. Stay tuned for future updates!
